Provincial Club Championships Seeding Requirements & Process

Basketball Nova Scotia (BNS) is pleased to include the following information on seeding requirements & process for the Provincial Club Championships. Any questions on seeding can be directed to bnsoperations@sportnovascotia.ca Thank you in advance for your cooperation and diligence as part of this process.

Only teams registered as BNS members can register for the Provincial Club Championships. Teams must register in their eligible age group (U12, U14, U16 & U18) and submit proper seeding games to be eligible to compete. Note on eligibility:

  • If a team plays up an age division as part of league play (i.e.: U14 team plays in U16 division), that U14 team could still register in the U14 Provincial Club Championships provided they meet the necessary seeding requirements.
  • Any player or team may play in an older age division, but no player or team shall play in a lower age division than their eligibility.
  • No player can compete in more than one (1) Provincial Club Championship tournament.

Overview

Seeding is the process of placing registered teams into divisional brackets. This process is one of the most important aspects of the Provincial Club Championships, helping to ensure that teams are placed in the appropriate divisions.

The objective of seeding is to work to ensure that every team has a chance to compete in a minimum of 50% of their games. Brackets will have top teams and bottom teams, with some teams winning all games, and some losing all games. Proper seeding assists in the process of ensuring that all teams have a chance to compete in at least half of the tournament games.
