KidSport is a national children’s program that helps kids overcome the financial barriers preventing or limiting their participation in organized sport. Managed and operated in Nova Scotia by Sport Nova Scotia since 1994, KidSport Nova Scotia has assisted over 24,000 children totalling over $5.5 Million. KidSport Nova Scotia provides funding of up to $300/year/child for athletes facing financial barriers for sport registration and/or equipment. In 2016 KidSport™ Nova Scotia allocated over $575,000 to more than 2,000 children from Sydney to Yarmouth. One-third of Canadian parents with children under the age of 18 have been unable to register their children in organized sports due to expenses. 32% of children in Nova Scotia between two and 17 years of age are either overweight or obese. The national average is 26%. Over 16,000 Nova Scotian children live in families receiving income assistance.

Athlete Assistance
This funding provides direct assistance for high-performance athletes. Some funding already exists for athletes who meet defined international, national and regional standards through Sport Canada, NSHPP, the CSCA and the Nova Scotia Amateur Sport Fund. As part of this program, each PSO will receive $750 annually for a PSO carding program to support athletes who do not qualify for the current funding but who have been recognized for their potential high-performance results.

The Support4Sport Awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of athletes, coaches, officials, sponsors, and volunteers from around the province – all of whom have contributed to sport in Nova Scotia. These individuals represent the best of amateur sport, not only by virtue of their athletic achievement, but also through their dedication and commitment to sport.

Sport Nova Scotia is pleased to offer the sport travel program to affiliated teams, clubs and organizations throughout Nova Scotia. We would like to extend appreciation to our exclusive travel partners, Westmont Hospitality Group Atlantic Canada Hotels, Enterprise rent-a-car, and The Westin Nova Scotian for providing outstanding programs, rates and service to assist your team travel needs.
