Basketball Nova Scotia cancels the creation of 2021 Team Scotia Teams

Feb 8, 2021 – Following the announcements of the cancellation of the 2021 Canada Games and 15U Canada Basketball Nationals, Basketball Nova Scotia has cancelled the season for their U14 – U17 Team Scotia teams.
While this is tough news for our Basketball Nova Scotia family, we foresee the current travel limitations being in place for the 2021 Spring/Summer season. Therefore, we don’t see a need in bringing together teams that would represent Nova Scotia on a national level for the time being. Although, we do see a need for our athletes to find a competitive atmosphere to compete in locally. Therefore, Basketball Nova Scotia’s focus is shifting towards the creation of our 2021 Spring League.

We have been in contact with local Club and long-standing Spring/Summer programs here in Nova Scotia and the interest to build this league is underway. We are looking at divisions from U14 – U18 male and female in participation and a U18 male and female high performance stream. This will be a great opportunity for athletes to play with their local teams, get lots of time on court and play in competitive competition in our own province.

Details are coming on next steps for our league. If you haven’t been in contact and are interested in coaching in our league, please contact our Technical Director, Tasia McKenna:

Thank you for your understanding.

About Basketball Nova Scotia Provincial Teams
Basketball Nova Scotia runs a very extensive High Performance program each year for athletes ages U14-U17. Through this program, we are able to identify the best basketball players in our sport throughout the Province. This provides an excellent opportunity for our youth to represent Basketball Nova Scotia at a Provincial, Atlantic, and National level. Provincial teams train and compete frequently throughout the spring and summer months, and participate in various tournaments throughout Canada and Eastern U.S., including two of our teams (U15 and U17 Boys/Girls), who participate at in National Championships. These events allow our athletes to display their talents in front of top-tier NCAA, USports, and CCAA scouts and coaches.
