Nate Philippe

Nate Philippe brings a unique background in the Canadian Basketball landscape to his new role with Basketball Nova Scotia.

Nate has coached at the highest levels of Basketball in North America with 14 years of experience building programs of excellence at the NCAA D1, U Sports, Prep School, High School, and AAU levels. For the last 7 years, Nate served as head coach at York University (2017-22) and UQAM (2015-17). Prior to returning to Canada, Nate coached at the NCAA D1 level at American University, UMaine, and North Dakota.

He brings National Team experience as well having worked with Canada Basketball as part of travel coaching staffs as well as training camp coaching staffs from 2017-22.

During his 14 years of coaching excellence, Nate helped in the development of over 70 players who have gone on to play Professionally, including 12 in the NBA. From 2010-17 teams that Nate coached competed in the Conference Championship game 5 of 7 years, and Won two Championships and a FISU World Championship in that time.

Nate holds a B.A. in Economics & Business Studies from St. Mary’s University, and also attended UPEI for two years prior. During that time he was a 4-year starter in the AUS, competed in two AUS Championship games, two Final 8 National Tournaments, and was recognized with numerous All-Star and All-Conference Awards.

Throughout his years of work in Basketball, at the center of everything he did was the development of the whole student-athlete not only as Basketball players, but also as students, people, and leaders. He looks forward to helping the continued development of Basketball in the Province of Nova Scotia, and helping to maximize the potential of the highest-upside athletes in our Basketball-rich Province.
