As we progress towards the 2025 Canada Summer Games and work to improve skill level across the board for our basketball programs throughout the province, the U16 Development Training Group (U16 DTG) will offer the opportunity to stay connected to the Provincial Team Program (PTP) through development sessions over the summer with BNS coaches.
The DTG group will be composed of athletes who will be developing for a spot on the 2025 U17 Canada Games team.
Selection process
Athletes for the U16 DTG will be selected from the final 2024 U15 and U17 tryouts. After the U15 and U17 teams have been selected, 14 athletes for both male and female groups will be selected to participate in the U16 DTG. Note: Participation in the U16 DTG does not guarantee a roster spot on future provincial teams.
What the program entails
The U16 DTG will not travel or participate in official games. There may be opportunities for inter-team competition or informal scrimmages. Sessions will be heavily focused on training and skill development that will focus on (but is not limited to), shooting, passing, decision-making, basketball IQ, defensive prowess.
Tentative timeline for training
May 24-25Note: Most training sessions will happen in the HRM with the possibility of one or more outside of the HRM depending upon the geographical spread of the group/coaching staff.
Note: Athletes must commit to a minimum of four (4) training sessions to be eligible for the program.
